Target Group Deep Dives: Research with Confidence

Master the nuances of inclusive user research by understanding the unique lived experiences of your participants.

Successful inclusive research requires more than just an accessible prototype; it requires a researcher who understands how to facilitate a session based on the specific needs of the participant. Our Deep Dive sessions are designed to give you that expertise. We move beyond theory to show you exactly how different groups interact with technology and how you can adapt your research methods to ensure every participant can share their insights comfortably and effectively.

The Deep Dive Series

Each session is a specialized "how-to" for a specific target group, ensuring that when you sit down for an interview or usability test, you can focus on the content of the research rather than being surprised by the logistics.

Visual Impairments (Blind & Low-Vision)

Blind and low-vision users navigate smartphones and computers in a completely different way than sighted users. This session is a literal eye-opener, covering the diversity of assistive technologies (like screen readers and braille displays) and how to manage the extra time and focus required for these sessions.

Neurodiversity (ADHD, Autism & More)

No group is as diverse as the neurodivergent community. A participant with autism may have vastly different sensory or communication needs than someone with ADHD. We take you through the various ways the brain processes information and stimuli, teaching you how to create a research environment that minimizes overwhelm and maximizes clarity.

Low Literacy & Dyslexia

How do you approach someone who struggles with reading? Is "low literacy" even the right term to use in an interview? In this session, you’ll learn the vital differences in approach between participants with a medical diagnosis like dyslexia and those categorized under low literacy, ensuring your communication is always respectful and accessible.

Deaf & Hard of Hearing

Not being able to hear well has a significant impact on how someone participates in a focus group or a 1-on-1 interview. We cover the essential logistics: from working with sign language interpreters to managing visual cues and ensuring your session is structured so that no information is lost in translation.

Physical Disabilities

Beyond the physical barriers of a building, participants with physical disabilities often face "invisible" hurdles like limited motor skills, spasms, chronic pain, or fatigue. You will learn how to design your "field days" and testing protocols to remove these barriers, making the research process as energy-efficient as possible for the participant.

Why Take a Deep Dive?

When you understand the tools and behaviors of your target group beforehand, you become a better moderator. You’ll know when to allow for more time, how to phrase your questions, and how to troubleshoot technical issues with assistive software on the fly. This knowledge builds trust with your participants and results in deeper, more accurate insights for your product.
